Carton Flow
Racking Systems

Carton flow racking — also called gravity flow racking — is a storage solution that uses gravity to load and retrieve product inventory in a warehouse, distribution center or manufacturing facility. These systems improve cost-efficiency, increase production and maximize safety for an extensive application range, from pick and pack operations to kitting and assembly lines. ProRack offers an extensive selection of in-stock and customizable carton flow racking systems to meet your operation’s carton and pallet storage needs. Our knowledgeable team can help you choose which system design best suits your facility and discuss pricing options. In addition, we also purchase existing rack systems from companies that are downgrading or installing new storage solutions.

What Is Carton Flow Racking?

Carton flow racking can be either a stand-alone unit or a fully integrated system that operates in the concept of a first-in, first-out (FIFO) inventory management process. Many of these systems offer pallet storage at the top of the rack with carton-picking abilities on the bottom half. Once a worker removes a carton from the storage rack, the next carton automatically flows to the forefront, minimizing a picker’s retrieval times and maximizing process efficiency.

These systems are perfect for increasing an operation’s safety levels because they reduce the strains associated with repetitive bending, reaching and pulling. The streamlined organization also maximizes your facility’s overall storage space. Several examples of the industry types that utilize these systems are warehousing and distribution, light assembly, food and beverage, medical manufacturing and commercial printing.

A single pallet racking system consists of three main components:

01. Uprights

The pallet rack system’s vertical frames determine the material handling system’s height and depth.

02. Beams

These horizontal bars connect to the uprights to support
the pallets and dictate each bay’s length.

03. Wire decking

This component lays over the beams |and supports the pallets while keeping the beams from spreading.

Selective pallet rack systems are versatile, offering benefits to a wide range of industries such as:

Retail

Manufacturing

Food Handling

General Warehousing

Considerations for Gravity Flow Pallet Racking

Think about:

Flexible bed flow

Bed flow uses full-flow rollers to deliver sturdy support and continuous flow. The laneless design accommodates various carton sizes, allowing boxes to move through any rack location without needing to reconfigure the lanes. These systems work well for high product turnover, e-commerce and seasonal operations.

Select lane flow

Select flow uses tracks with predetermined widths based on a specific carton size. These tracks provide full support and smooth flow from the stocking phase through the picking position. These systems are ideal for distribution operations that do repetitive work with consistent carton sizes.

What space is available:

The height and width of open space in your warehouse affect how many racks you can fit into your facility.

Benefits of a Carton Flow Racking System

Single-deep pallet racks can benefit your warehouse’s operational flow, providing flexibility, accessibility and optimization. This racking system will increase your storage capacity, enabling you to increase productivity and revenue.

Carton flow rack systems provide many benefits to workers and a distribution facility’s overall operation, including:
